She was preceded in death by parents, son John Young, 3 brothers Robert Gunter, John Eugene Gunter, Bill Gunter and one sister Margaret Muse .
She was born and raised around Kirkwood, graduating Kirkwood High School in 1947. She attended Western Illinois Teachers College. She started teaching at Barr, a one room schoolhouse. She taught music in Kirkwood before she started to raise her family. She was a member and director of Galesburg Sweet Adelines. She was also a member and director for Heart of Illinois Chorus. She played the Calliope for parades for 38 years and in three states. She played the organ and piano at the Coldbrook Christian Church for many years. Doris also helped around the farm and helped her husband with there businesses.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 26th 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Graveside Services will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021at 2:00 pm at the Mosher Cemetery.
