U.S. Congressman. He attended the University of Alabama, graduated from the law department of the University of Arkansas, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in West Memphis, Arkansas. He was member of the Arkansas State Senate, (1935-39). In 1939, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-sixth Congress and to the next fourteen succeeding Congresses, serving until 1969. Not a candidate for reelection, he served as a member of West Memphis Port Authority, Arkansas and resumed the practice of law until his death at age 75.
