Enlisted in Bangor on 11 March 1943. He was admitted to a military hospital in October 1944 for a compound tarsal fracture caused by a rifle bullet. He was discharged from the hospital and the service on 26 February 1945 for injury occurred in the line of duty.
Lauren S. Hughes
Hartland, March 13 – Lauren S. Hughes, 31, died early this morning at a Togus hospital after a long illness.
He was born at Benton June 19, 1924, son of Harvey and Annie Potter Hughes. He had been a resident of Hartland for several years and was employed by the Hartland Tanning Company.
Mr. Hughes was a veteran of World War II and was discharged from the service on February 26, 1945 after being wounded in Germany. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Harmony.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn; two daughters, Sherry and Laurel; his mother Mrs. Annie Hughes of St Albans; five brothers, Harold of Waterbury, Conn., Carroll of Bridgeport, Conn., Marshall of Pittsfield, Robert W. of Supelveda (sic), Calif., Dennis of St. Albans; four sisters, Mrs. Mildred Harris of Vasselboro, Mrs. Shirley Osborn of Fairfield, Mrs. Madelyn Young of Encino, Calif., Mrs. Marilyn Chase of Jefferson, N.H.
Funeral services will be held at the Hartland Baptist Church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Homer S. Hughey of Newport officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery, Hartland.
Friends may call at the residence after 11 o'clock Wednesday.
