He was born December 15, 1929, in Des Moines to Ray and Lunda Ella Jones. He had three brothers and five sisters. Ray was a June 1948 East High graduate.
He married Ruth Deloris Peterson on September 8, 1951.
Ray served from September 1951 - October 1953 with the 2nd Armored Division in Germany.
Ray worked 38 years for Continental Western as a commercial underwriter.
He was a student of history-U.S. Civil War and the 2nd World War.
Ray was a Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Johnston.
Ray is survived by his wife of 70 years, Deloris, his children, Dianne (Doug) Angstrom, Cindy (Jeff) Sheeks, Phil (Diane) Jones, and Susan (Rick) Jacobsen; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and his sister-in-law, Donna Jones.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 14, at First Baptist Church in Johnston with inurnment to be held at Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or the Salvation Army.
