Hall of Fame Professional Football Player. He played the center position for the National Football League's Minnesota Vikings from 1962 to 1978. He played football collegiately at the University of Nebraska, where he was a co-captain of the 1961 Cornhusker team. He wasn't drafted in the 1962 NFL Draft and signed as a free agent with the Minnesota Vikings. He went on to be a crucial part of the Vikings' offensive line for the next seventeen years before retiring after the 1978 season. During his tenure with the Vikings, he started 240 games and had thirteen fumble recoveries. Also he was a five-time First-team All-Pro, two-time Second-team All-Pro, and made the NFL Pro Bowl six times. He was a part of all four Vikings' Super Bowl appearances and is considered the greatest center of his era. After his retirement, he was honored by the team by being inducted into the Vikings Ring of Honor in 2001 and having his number 53 retired by the franchise. He was also a member of the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015.
