Thomas Roy Reed died Sunday, September 5, 2021. He was born December 31, 1942, in Lamar, MO to Charley and Ruby (Harrington) Reed. Tom enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1960, serving as a recip aircraft mechanic in many places including Saudi Arabia, Hawaii, Maryland (serving in the Presidential Squadron for 6 years), and Iceland, before landing in Austin, TX until his retirement in 1980. After retirement, he moved back to Missouri to be closer to family, and attended Ozark Bible College for one year. He loved traveling and eventually he decided to travel the country driving an 18 wheeler for many years until his next retirement.
Tom was a member of the First Christian Church in Lamar, MO, where he was a servant for many years, holding several positions and helping in a variety of areas including serving as an elder and teaching many classes and sharing the message of Jesus. He would describe himself as a lifelong wrench turner and would often be found working on not only his own vehicles (cars, trucks, tractors, MOTORCYCLES, etc.), but those of a large part of his family and community. He was a member of the VFW 3691, American Legion 209 and the local R.O.M.E.O. (Retired Old Men Eating Out) motorcycle group. Tom was a dedicated father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jim Reed and Donna Byrd; and grandson, Adam Cochran.
Funeral services were held at The First Christian Church in Lamar on Saturday, September 11. A committal service took place at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, MO, Monday, September 13.
