Civil War Confederate Officer. An alumnus of Jefferson Medical College, Dr. William Christopher Nunn ultimately became a commissioned cavalry officer in Company C, 5th Virginia Cavalry. The native of Virginia was captured at Trevillian Station, Virginia on June 11, 1864, and made a prisoner-of-war at Point Lookout, Maryland. Captain Nunn with 599 other Confederate officers would in the end be transferred to Morris Island, South Carolina. Beginning at this time, the group of prisoners underwent the deliberate torment and mistreatment by the United States Government. Nunn and his compatriots would later become known as the "Immortal 600".
