July 7, 1952 - November 19, 2020
Mr. Edward Jerome Briley was born July 7, 1952 to James Briley and Bertha Council Briley.
His parents moved to Richmond, VA with their first child, Edward. He went to Richmond Elementary School when he became of age and then to Jr. High School. At the end of his last year of Jr. High, he wanted to come to North Carolina and live with his two aunts, Lizzie C. Williams and Beulah C. Peppers, and his cousin, Norman Williams. His mother gave him permission to leave only if the two aunts accepted him. The answer was yes and he came to Hamilton and never left again to go back to Richmond.
Edward went to West Martin High School and finished school there. He went to St. Augustine for a short time and decided to leave. Everyone knew him as "Boot." He loved to hunt and was a member of the Jump & Run Hunting Club. He was a member from 1978-2017.
After sometime had passed, he joined the Duggins Hunting Club. He remained a member until he was no longer able to drive and he didn't feel he could make it too far. Boot loved basketball. He could stand at the end of the gym and throw the ball to the other with his left hand.
