Gary Lee Dean Sr., 57, of Shamokin Dam, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born Aug. 28, 1964, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late George W. Dean, and Isla Mary (Zakutney) Dean, of Lewistown, who survives.
In addition to his mother, Gary is survived by: his wife, Joyce (Tate) Dean, whom he married Aug. 15, 2009; son, Gary Lee Dean Jr., of Lewistown; stepson, Ryan Tate, of Yeagertown; and his brother, Randy Dean and wife, Kimberly, of Lewistown.
He was a graduate of Lewistown High School, Class of 1984. Gary also graduated from Blue Rock Vocational School as a certified electrician.
He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran.
Gary was a member of Christ Community Church in Selinsgrove, where he led the men's ministry program. He was a believer in the Gideon philosophy that each man be ready to do God's will at any time. Along with his wife, Joyce, they were always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Gary was larger than life with an incredible sense of humor. He was an avid gardener, kept a neat yard and enjoyed socializing with his neighbors.
A viewing will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021, at Calvary Baptist Church, Third Street, Lewistown, followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m., with Pastor Sean Moon officiating.
Interment will take place at Fort Indiantown Gap Cemetery on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 12:30 p.m.
