James "Jimmy" Downs died peacefully at his home in Rockport, Sept. 4, 2021.
Born Feb. 17, 1939, in Simsbury, Conn., he was the son of the late Robert W. and Clementine Bourgeois Downs.
Jimmy was raised with his family in Belfast, who later moved to the Bath/Brunswick area. He also lived with the Lindscott family, prior to spending most of his adult life at the Shirley Drinkwater home in Rockport under the care of Coastal Opportunities.
Although born with cerebral palsy and developmentally and physically challenged, he was active in the community and enjoyed outings and visiting with his brothers and their families. He led a full and rewarding life, and was an inspiration to family members, caregivers and others who were fortunate to have Jimmy in their lives.
He is predeceased by his brother Robert Downs and niece Kristen Downs.
He is survived by his brothers Frederick Downs and his wife Georgia of Brunswick/Georgetown, William Downs and his wife Jean of Taunton, Mass.; nieces Michele Leach, Valerie Downs and Karyn Caron; nephews Dana Downs, Linwood Downs, William Downs Jr. and David Downs along with several great-nieces and nephews.
