Joy was born on April 14, 1942 in Detroit, MI. A few years after her birth, Joy's family moved to Dorton, TN. Her family resided there until her teens, when they moved to Tampa, FL. Joy and Jack met in Tennessee and continued their courtship until they married in July 1960. Joy worked as a secretary until she had children and then chose to stay home and open a licensed in-home daycare. Joy continued the daycare until all of her children graduated high school, at which time she retired the daycare and started her banking career. Joy retired from Bank of America. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1965, where she served the Lord as a Sunday School teacher, nursery worker, choir member, and as an encouragement to shut-ins. She enjoyed family time, traveling, and reading.
