Ronald Pat Collins gained his heavenly wings on September 8, 2021, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene after a courageous battle with Covid. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Baird with Brother Jimmy Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow in Neinda Cemetery in Jones County. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Bailey-Howard Funeral Home in Clyde.

Ronald was born on July 2, 1949, in Hamlin, Texas, to John Pat and Billie Collins. He was raised in Stamford, Texas, and graduated from Stamford High School in 1968. Ronnie served in the Marie Corp after graduation for a short until an injury forced a medical discharge. During this time, Ronnie became the proud father of his daughter, Tonya Lynn Collins Cogburn. He loved her and spoiled her to the absolute best of his ability.

Ronny obtained his barbers license in 1978 and had an extremely fruitful career as a barber shop owner in and around the DFW and Abilene area. He was currently the owner of US Hair in Abilene, a successful business of over 30 years.

Ronny also enjoyed a career in country music, having written and recorded many popular country and southern gospel songs that gained in the European market. Music was his passion and he thoroughly enjoyed spending time in his music studio at home and mentoring younger musicians.

Ronny married Saundra Cheek Collins of Stamford on July 18, 1987. They were married for 34 years at the time of his passing, but they enjoyed calling their marriage just one long date. If there were ever two opposites attracting it was Ronny and Saundra. Food, music, clothing, toothpaste, they agreed on nothing. It just made their life of 34 years full of love, laughter, jokes and total adoration.

Although Ronny and Saundra had no children of their own, they were blessed to raise Ronny's grandson, Chris Cogburn. Ronny spent many an hour with Chris in the backyard teaching him how to throw a baseball. Family time consisted of travel, baseball and continually supporting Chris in his love of the game. Chris was the apple of his Papa's eye. Chris did not take a step without Papa leading, pushing or walking beside him. He supported him in every step he made and did it with a dad's love. They enjoyed spending time on the back deck discussing sports and politics at hours at a time. Chris always knew that Papa was his guiding light.

Many miles were traveled and too many good times to count were spent traveling the highways and spending time with his extended family, the Baird Bunch. He was always ready to go and was the first one ready to come home. Everyone knew that when Ronny said, "let's go," we were heading to the nearest ice cream shop. The stories that were told always got bigger and the yarns got longer with every trip, but a good time was always had by all.

If you knew Ronny, you knew his was a little on the opinionated side, particularly about politics. He was definitely an all American, red blooded, gun owning, always on the right side, staunch Republican who spent hours watching Fox News. His TV was on Fox News. His truck radio was on Fox News. And his iPhone was usually blaring a Fox News story. One of his favorite things to do was to see knew how many times he could be put in Facebook jail.

Ronnie loved his Lord and Savior and gave his life to Christ and was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church in Stamford, Texas. He enjoyed discussing the Bible and his teachings. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Baird, Texas.

Ronny was preceded in death by his parents, John Pat and Billie Collins; his mother-in-law, Frances Cheek; and his brother-in-law, William Cheek.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife who worshipped the ground he walked on, Saundra Collins of Baird; his daughter who loved him dearly, Tonya Cogburn of Hawley; his grandson whom he loved as his son and who will miss his guidance, Chris Cogburn of Baird; his sister whom he loved to tease often and unmercifully, Pam Allen and husband Rick of Abilene; his brother who was his football loving partner and best bud, Gary Collins and wife Linda of Abilene; two beautiful great-granddaughters, Kendall and Camille Cogburn of Baird; his sister-in-law, Marvette Warren and husband Buddy of Baird; his nephews, nieces and many cousins, all of whom he loved dearly; and the Baird Bunch, his extended family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Baird Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 1013, Baird, TX 79504.
