Leona Adelia Lamb, age 106, of McCook, Nebraska, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, in Omaha, Nebraska, at Silvercrest Assisted Living.

She was born July 18, 1895, to William Calvin and Louisa Jane (McWilliams) Lowrey, at Dunbar, Nebraska. She graduated from Dunbar High School in 1914 and was graduated from Peru State College where she obtained a life-time teaching certificate. She taught for more than 11 years.

She married Richard Charles Lamb on June 12, 1927, at her parents home in Dunbar, Nebraska. He died on April 18, 1970.

They farmed near Wauneta, NE, for many years before retiring in McCook.

After her daughter Donna's death in 1969, Leona, at age 74, took in her two granddaughters, Jeanine, who was three months old, and Colleen, who was two and one half years old.

She helped to keep the family together by making dinner for everyone each Sunday in her home. In 1995, at 100 years old she was named Mother Of The Year for Red Willow County.

Leona was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Charles; daughter, Donna in 1969; three grandchildren, Marcia Gunderson, Ronald Haag and Randall Moon; and nine brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughter Marleen and husband, Gordon Gunderson, of Omaha, NE; son-in-law Ray Haag and wife, Myrna, of Bartley, NE; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be March 2, 2002, at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook, NE, with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, Nebraska.
