NEW ROCHELLE, June 1— Robert H. Cochrane who retired in 1938 as president of Universal Pictures, Inc., a motion ‐ picture company he helped found in 1906, died yesterday, at the New Rochelle Hospital. He was 94 years old.

Mr. Cochrane became interested in Universal when he was owner of the Cochrane Advertising Agency in Chicago and advanced money to Carl Laemmle to found the film company. Mr. Laemnmle became president and Mr. Cochrane was vice president until 1936, when Mr. Laemmle sold his interests and the presidency went to Mr. Cochrane.

Mr. Cochrane had been a reporter and city editor on The Toledo Bee. He had headed Independent Motion Pictures, and was vice president of the Universal Film Manufacturing Company, which later became Universal Pictures.

Mr. Cochrane was a former director of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America and a member of the Code Authority of the Motion Picture Industry.

He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Betty C. Laeri, and a son, Robert H. Cochrane Jr.
