JUNE 30, 1934 – SEPTEMBER 5, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Mayo, 87, on September 5, 2021, after a short illness. Jim was born in Cleveland, OH on June 30, 1934. He graduated from Ohio Northern University with a degree in Pharmacy. While working at his first job as a pharmacist, he met a co-worker, Rosemary, who would become the love of his life and the two were married for 63 years before her death in January of 2021.

Jim was a devoted father to his two girls Deborah Mayo and Angela Sanford and a loving grandfather to his grandchildren, Logan and Jessica Sanford. He was a well respected pharmacist who at one time owned a small chain of pharmacies in the Houston area and was beloved by his customers and employees. He loved being a pharmacist and working with people so much he didn't stop working until April of 2020.

Jim loved to travel with his family to his two favorite places, Sanibel Island, FL and Walt Disney World. He also loved family dinners, watching movies or playing games with his grandchildren , traveling to conventions with his co-workers, or just relaxing and enjoying a nice highball in his favorite recliner.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife Rosemary Garsteck Mayo and his parents Joseph and Rose Mayo. He is survived by his daughters Deborah Mayo and Angela Sanford, son-in-law Scott Sanford and grandchildren Logan and Jessica Sanford.

A visitation for Jim with family and friends will be held, Thursday, September,9 2021 from 6-8 PM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079. A funeral service will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Friday, September 10, 2021 at 10:00 AM followed by a brief committal service at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
