Michael Eugene Reed, age 74, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021 of a sudden stroke.

Michael was born March 26, 1947 in Des Moines, Iowa to Kenneth Reed, Sr. and Anna Louise (Elifrits) Reed. He was the oldest of five children.

Michael's family moved throughout the Des Moines area through his childhood. He graduated from Valley High School.

After graduation, Michael went to work for Meredith Corp.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1966, serving in Vietnam from 1966 – 1970.

Meredith Corp. held his position for him during his enlistment. Michael retired from (Meredith) R.R. Donnelly in 2002.

Michael met LaJean Morales at the home of his parents and they were married in April of 1984. Family was most important to him. He would do anything for anyone and would give you the shirt off his back.

Michael enjoyed being outdoors and loved fishing, tinkering, and tearing things apart to rebuild them.

He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, and was able to attend a game at Lambeau Field.

A favorite trip was a cruise to the Bahamas with his wife, LaJean.

He loved going to the dirt track and watching stock car races.

Michael was a huge Iowa State Fair fan and as a member of Chesterfield Christian Church, he worked at the church's fair dining hall for several years.

He is survived by his wife, LaJean Reed; children, Michael Reed II, Lori (Virgil) Wells, and Jacob (Jeni) Reed; siblings, Sally Dross, Kenny (Roberta) Reed, and Kevin Reed; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his large extended family.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Sr. and Anna Louise Reed; and his brother, Denny Reed.

Services will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by funeral service at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place at Avon Cemetery after the services.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Michael.
