Funeral services were held in The Miller Sherman Funeral Home this [Thursday] afternoon at 2 o'clock for Martin Andersen, 72, who passed away Monday evening. Rev. H.O. Nielsen conducted the service. Interment was made in the Danish Cemetery. Martin Andersen was born in Denmark July 20, 1870. He came to the United States and settled at Shennington, Wisconsin in 1892. Here he married Elsie Marie Madsen in 1894. Five children were born to this union. A daughter Christine passed away in 1915. In January 1899 the family moved to Bowbells, N.D. where Mrs. Andersen passed away in October 1903. In November 1907 Mr. Andersen and five children came to Oregon and settled in The Oak Grove district. In June 1938 he married Mrs. Minnie Rasmussen. He was a member of the Danish Lutheran church in Junction City.
Mr. Andersen was a quiet man, a good father, neighbor and friend. He had been in poor health for several years. On Tuesday Nov. 10, Mr. Andersens' car was struck by an Oregon Electric train on a crossing near his home. He received a broken pelvis and other injuries, and was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital [in Eugene],where he passed away Monday evening. He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Anna Woods of Oak Grove, Mrs. Ella Kimball of Eugene, Clara Andersen and a son A.C. Andersen, both of Portland. Four brothers, James Andersen, Oak Grove, Soren Andersen, Magrath, Alberta, Canada, Nels Andersen, Dagmar, Mont., Louie Andersen of Bowbells, N.D. and a sister, Mrs. P.K. Peitersen of Eugene. Friends also survive.
