On June 6, 1923, he, at the Hampton County Courthouse, married Ruby Dell Varnadore. Mostly, they lived in what is now Allendale County, but they stayed a few months in 1945-1946 in Estill. In 1947, they moved to C. O. Gray's property (Allendale County) and he clerked in C. O.'s store until 1966, when they moved in with their daughter Ruth.
