Johnnie Richard Brown
January 4, 1953 - September 7, 2021

Funeral Services for Mr. Johnnie Richard Brown will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Cherry Grove Baptist Church, Family Life Center, Mittie, with Reverend Josh Eubanks and Matt McClusky officiating. Interment will follow in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Mittie, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.

Johnnie was born on January 4, 1953 in Natchez, MS, the third child of Bill and Pat Brown. He attended school in Bell City and Lacassine and graduated from Fairview High in Grant making lifelong friends at each. In 1972 Johnnie enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served in Germany, Korea, and stateside for eighteen years followed by civil service and the Army Reserve. He was a Veteran and a patriot and stood his ground on his beliefs.

Johnnie was a wheeler and dealer. He loved to buy and sell all sorts of things, but nothing satisfied him more than a good, fair trade. He was a talented mechanic, an expert on guns and ammunition, and a CB radio wizard, always seeming to have the right part to fix your problem. He hunted and fished, but what he wanted most was to hear a pack of deer hounds getting in on a good race. John liked a good cup of coffee, black and spoon-bending strong. Over the years he enjoyed going to the rooster fights, was always up for a card game, and rumor has it he made a mighty fine whiskey. He was our family historian. This old country boy learned to use the internet and traced multiple families back for generations. He was known to take off, no matter how far, to visit the homesite, church, or cemetery of an ancestor. Johnnie's research led him to Facebook, which gave way to his daily views on current events, always signing off with his hunting CB handle- Halftrack. Attending Cherry Grove Baptist Church, Johnnie was comforted in these crazy times by God's Word. Johnnie Brown definitely cut his own path, but in the end made it to the clearing.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and infant brother, Timothy.

Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include one son, Bobby Brown, of Huntsville, AL; two daughters, Kimberly Fooshee and her husband, Benjamin, of New Albany, MS. and Veronica Quebedeaux, of Torrance, CA; two grandsons of which he was very proud, Hunter and Heath Poirrier, of New Albany, MS; three sisters, Janice Brown, of Reeves, Cynthia Brown, of Oakdale and Carleen Mahaffey and her husband, Gary, of Mittie; one brother, James Brown and his wife, Tammy, of Dry Creek; beloved cousins, Sonia Hall of Odessa, TX. and Don Brown, of Spring, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends, especially Peanut and Regina Martin.

A time of visitation will be held at Cherry Grove Baptist Church, Family Life Center, Mittie, on Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 8:00 a.m until time of services.

Pallbearers honored to serve are: Hunter Poirrier, Heath Poirrier, Scott McGee, Brandon Boswell, Barron Brown, Shane Matte, Michael Paul Pitre, Jonas McGee, Adam McGee, Tristan Matte, and Noah Beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local Veterans' group.
