Wanda Kay Vaughn, 72, of McAlester, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, at McAlester Regional Health Center. A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 11:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in McAlester, with Pastor Monty Thompson officiating. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation be made to Gideon's International, which can be done through their web site.

Wanda Kay Vaughn was born on Feb. 18, 1949 in Okemah, Ok., the daughter of Julius Martin Gillin and Ruby Ellen (Wheeler) Gillin. She grew up in McAlester and graduated from McAlester High School in 1967. She went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree from Northeastern State University. She married George William Vaughn on Aug. 28, 1982 in McAlester. He preceded her in death in 2008. After doing some substitute teaching, she went to work with the Department of Human Services as a social worker until her retirement a few years ago. She was a devoted member of the Frink Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for a number of years. In her spare-time she loved to travel and was an ardent amateur photographer, the unofficial photographer of Frink Baptist Church. She also loved and owned several cats.

Kay is survived by her children, Paul Bradley McNatt, Bonnie Ellen McNatt, and Amanda Kay Malone and her husband Ryan; grandchildren, Hayden and Mia Malone; a brother, Burt Williams; a sister, Janet Thorne; a sister-in-law, Linda Rippstein and her husband Bobby; and a brother-in-law, Robert Vaughn and his wife Lee; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 2 brothers, Rick and Mark Gillin; and a sister Vera Condit.
