SFC Mark R Phillips passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday July 25th, 2021, in San Antonio Texas at the age of 48.

He is survived by his mother Diane Dawson of Greenville Texas, his wife Shannon Phillips of San Antonio, daughters Addison, Rachel, Rebecca, Madalynn, Mallorie and son Aydon. Grandchildren Sherman Jr, and Raelynn. He is preceded in death by his father Mark Phillips, grandparents Bobbie Jo Phillips, Beatrice Ann Phillips, Peggy Heald Gowin, Leon Gowin, and JR Hughes.

Mark was born April 25th, 1973, in Austin Texas. He was always proud of his birthplace and felt that his parents planned it so he could be born near the University of Texas campus. His love for the Texas Longhorns began early.

Mark grew up between Forth Worth, Greenville and Emory Texas. He graduated in 1991 from Southwest High School in Fort Worth Texas. On January 5th, 1994, Mark started his 24 1/2-year military career as a Combat Medic. Mark had an Army family like no other and served along with some of the best soldiers. He was remembered as one of the best NCOs; he was admired by his soldiers both who served under him and with him.

He served with many divisions/brigades of the Army but his love for his 4th Brigade Combat, 10th Mountain Division 3/89 Cav out of Fort Polk, LA, was his all-time favorite. He finally hung up his spurs and uniforms and retired on July 1st, 2018.

He reconnected with his wife Shannon in December of 2009, after 20 years of friendship. They shared an awesome bond. Mark became an instant Bonus Dad/Mark Dad, to his bride's 5 children when they married in Texas on September 23rd, 2011. Their favorite saying to each other was "Always, Forever, and No matter What".

They welcomed their daughter Addison in 2013 when stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. She was her daddy's world along with her 5 siblings. As a family of 8, they had so much love for each other. Mark's children will remember him as funny, strong, good hearted, amazing, fatherly, caring and an amazing listener.

Mark loved the Texas Longhorns, and loved teasing anyone who wasn't a Texas fan. He will be remembered as an American Hero, who loved his country, God, and Family.

In true Mark Phillips fashion, and at the request of his youngest daughter Addison, she is asking that we honor her Daddy by wearing University of Texas Longhorn gear to his service which will be on Saturday, July 31st, 2021 at 2pm in the Chapel of Lynch Funeral Service in Greenville, Texas. The family will be accepting guests on Friday, July 30, 2021 from 6-8pm at Lynch Funeral Service. Mark will be laid to rest at Lynch Memorial Park with military honors after his service.
