Mattie "Matty" Belle Goodwin, 78, of Fayetteville, Georgia, passed away peacefully in her home on September 4, 2021. She was born in Robbinsville, NC, on April 28, 1943, to the late Charles Edward and Bessie Hill McMonigle.
Matty was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Charles Goodwin, her parents, Rellie and Bessie Hall, and her siblings, Betty Lou Deyton, Bertha Jo "Sister" Walker, Rex McMonigle, Eugene McMonigle, Max Porter McMonigle, and Gary McMonigle.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Edgar (Carrie Cagle) Goodwin of Peachtree City, Georgia; her daughter, Lynne (Scott) Leatherman of Fayetteville, Georgia; her grandchildren, Jerry Charles "JC" Goodwin, and Chesney Eubanks and her father, Jody Eubanks; her brothers, Sonny Boy (Shirley) McMonigle and Dee (Iris) McMonigle; and a host of nieces and nephews and their families.
Matty's family was everything to her, especially her two grandchildren. She also cherished her friends that were near and far. Matty was fun-loving and the life of any party. After moving to Atlanta at the age of 18, she got her insurance license and she also worked for Delta Air Lines for ten years.
A memorial service will be held at Townson-Smith Funeral Home, 160 Five Point Road, Robbinsville, NC, on Friday, September 24, 2021, at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 12:00 PM. Inurnment will follow the service at Lone Oak Cemetery, Tapoco Road, Robbinsville, NC.
