Nancy J. Thompson, age 91, passed away peacefully at the home of her son, Tom, in Hatley, Wisconsin.

In accordance to Nancy's wishes, there will be a private ceremony with only family members in attendance.

Nancy was a courageous, non-complaining woman, who fought a long, hard, 30-plus year battle with five kinds of cancer. Nancy kept fighting until the end, but her body finally said – "no more."

Nancy Jean Elizabeth Murray Thompson was born on July 30, 1930, to George "Tommy" Murray and Helen Martin Murray. She had one brother, George Jr (Patricia) – they all predeceased her.

Nancy married Robert G. Thompson on August 28, 1954. They moved from Stevens Point to Wisconsin Rapids in 1960 – where she resided until 2020. Robert predeceased her 20 years ago. Nancy was a devoted mother to her two sons – Tom (Sandee) and Gary (Rhonda).

Nancy adored and spoiled her four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. From Tom – Eric Olson (Amie) August and Runa. Allie Newman (Colton) Sophie and Carsyn. From Gary – Katie Urban (Drew) Denali, Phoenix and Ducati. From Kallie Keith (Bryan) Christian and Bryleigh.

Nancy loved animals but mainly dogs! She was predeceased by her personal dogs: Pandy, Sam, Nicki and Cody; and her grand-dogs: Stanley, Misty and Homey "G" dog.

In Hatley, Nancy resided with her three grand dogs, Chuck, Irma and Loretta. (We believe that are the only reason she decided to move.) They were by her side until the day she passed.

Nancy worked for Putney Electric before her marriage to Robert, and as a doctor's assistant at the Rice Clinic until the birth of her children. Nancy was then a homemaker and she volunteered for many activities the rest of her life.

Nancy belonged to the Untied Methodist Church in Wisconsin Rapids, and its Dorcas Circle for the many years and later in life she began going to various churches with friends.

The family would like to thank Marshfield Medical Center – Wisconsin Rapids/Marshfield, for their care and kindness throughout her battle with cancer. Specifically, thank you to the nursing staff of Dorothy, Deidre, and Stacy; Dr. Fagbemi and Jane, and Barbara Theisen.

Compassus of Wausau was in Nancy's life during the last three weeks. They gave her great care, comfort, and kindness. Specifically, special thanks to Brandy, Megan, Chaplain Mark, and Ellyn.

Cancer nurses and hospice nurses are angels on earth!

Special thanks to her special friend Marcie Lovesee.

Lastly, Nancy was a kind, sweet, and loving person with many friends. If she had a fault – it would be that she was "too kind" and "too helpful." What a great "fault" to have!

A way to honor Nancy would include kindness to everyone, everything, on every day.

Donations in her memory may be made to your local Humane Society.

Thank you to Herman-Taylor Funeral Home for their promptness, respect, and kindness during this transition.
