Erna Viola Frank (nee Sayler) entered her eternal home on September 3, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Barbara (nee Ackerman) Sayler, three brothers, Leo, Albert, and Wilbert Sayler; four sisters, Alma Rueb, Esther Baldock, Hulda Entzminger, and Lillian Vilhauer; and her husband, Erich Frank.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Judith (the late Edward) Roe, Gerald (Betty Jo) Frank, and Janelda Barnett; 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her 28 nieces and nephews.

Erna was born July 31, 1923, to William and Barbara (nee Ackerman) Sayler, in rural Logan County, near Wishek, ND. She attended Johanestahl country school, one mile from her home and received her eighth grade diploma.

She met her husband, Erich Frank the summer of 1944, and decided to further her education before she married. She attended Great Lakes Bible Institute, Zion, IL, for the winter semester. She intended to continue her education, however, Erich had interviewed for a pastoral position in Elgin, ND. They would not hire him unless he was married, so Erna and Erich were married July 10, 1945, with brother-in-law, George Rueb officiating, Erna's sibling twins, Hulda and Wilbert Sayler as witnesses. She was a Pastor's wife, mother, and homemaker her entire adult life.

She lived a caring life for others and was a constant companion and pastoral work partner to her husband Erich. Her children, Judith, Gerald, and Janelda were her joy. She spent her years with Erich, visiting their parishioners, teaching Sunday school, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, and coordinating Women's Ministry in her church. She loved sketching pictures, reading, gardening, cooking, sewing, crocheting, and playing guitar.

She is best known by her love of God and continuous application of scripture along with sharing the wonderful promises of God and answered prayers. Her smile and laugh were contagious. Her ongoing desire was to please Jesus, and live according to His principles and will. She lived her testimony, shared her testimony, and prayed for all she knew continually. She spent time with Jesus when she awakened and before she retired each night. Her utmost desire was that her entire family would spend eternity with Jesus and all their loved ones, that not one would be lost. She had many favorite scripture verses which she desires to share with you:

John 3:16: For God so loved this world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Hebrews 11:1, 6: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen…but without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

I Corinthians 13: Though I speak with the tongues of men and angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

Love suffers long and is kind, love does not envy, love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil, does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease, whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophecy in part. But when that is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

When I was a child, I spoke like as a child, I understood as a child, but when I became a man I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I am known.

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three, but the greatest of these is love.

Ecclesiastes 12:13: Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every work into judgement, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.

I John 4:19: We love Him because He first loved us.

I John 1:9: But if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Song of Solomon 2:4: He brought me to the banqueting house, and His banner over me is love.

Proverbs 10:12: Hatred stirs up strife. But, love covers all sins.
