John was a US Army Veteran and he served his Country proudly. He was last employed and retired from the Cambria County Community Action Center. John was a member of Our Lady of the Alleghenies Church in Lilly and a member of the Lilly American Legion Post # 628. John enjoyed reading, shopping, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and traveling on bus trips and abroad with his wife. At John's request there will be no viewing and/or visitation.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 11 AM at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Church in Lilly, Fr. Matthew Reese, Celebrant. Committal will be held in St. Brigid Cemetery in Lilly. Graveside Military Rites by the Lilly Veterans Honor Guard. On-line condolences may be made at www.decortfh.com. John's wife, Marie, would like to give a special thank you to Windber Hospice for the compassionate care that they had given to John, especially Yvonne. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in John's name to the American Cancer Society and/or the American Lung Association. The Dougherty Family is being served by the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. in Portage.
