His health had been failing for several months and he had been bedfast for the past two months.
He was born on a farm south of Irwin, Iowa and the son of Anthony and Cassie Green McKeever on January 9, 1877. His mother died when he was three years old. The family later moved to a farm near Perry, Iowa where his father died when he was 16. Tom made his home with a cousin the late Mrs Scott McConnell near Harlan following the death of his father.
He was married to Lucy E. Lamer on August 30, 1900 at Audubon and lived on various farms near Elk Horn and Marne, with the exception of one year spent in Kansas.
In 1922 they moved to Harlan where he had been a dynamiter in road construction and ditching for Shelby county for 34 years. He and his wife celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary August 30, 1956.
He is survived by two daughter, Mrs Clinton Moore of Manning, Iowa and Mrs Thelma (C.V.) Caldwell of San Pablo, California, also 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy, two great grandchildren, two great grandchildren, his parents and seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held for Pauley's funeral home in Harlan Sunday October 6, 1957 with Rev Lester Moore of the Manning Methodist church officiating. Burial in Oak Hill cemetery, Irwin.
