John William (Bill) Cunningham passed away peacefully at the age 79 in the morning of Monday, September 1, 2021, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. His graveside service will be at 10:30 am on Friday, September 10 at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 9:00 am Saturday, September 11 at the Countryside Baptist Church in Stillwater, OK. Please wear your game day attire Saturday.

On September 26, 1941, Bill was born to Truman Jules Cunningham and Ruth Litzell Cunningham in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Bill graduated from Bryan Adams High School in Dallas, Texas. He then attended Oklahoma State University where he earned his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering (1963) and a Master's degree in Business Administration (1965). While he was in school, he was President of the OSU chapter of Delta Upsilon. After serving in ROTC at OSU, Bill was deployed to Vietnam and served 1966-1968. Following his service, he received an honorable discharge having earned the rank of Captain.

While at OSU Bill had met the love of his life, Sally. After Bill graduated from college they wed and started their marital journey for life for 58 years. Bill was a dependable, honest, intelligent, industrious, and a wise man. He gave of himself for his children and community. Bill spent many years involved in church ministry as a life-long Sunday school and Bible study teacher at Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church in Denver, Colorado, Redeemer Covenant Church in Carrollton, Texas and Countryside Baptist Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma - where he was also a former Deacon. He and Sally often hosted small groups in their home and cherished the friendships that they developed in the church. Bill and Sally also enjoyed many fishing trips together as a couple over 30 years. Eventually, they retired to Stillwater where they were active in Oklahoma State University activities and their church.

Bill worked in many capacities in the oil industry for nearly 60 years. He was a member of the American Institute of Mining Engineers (AIME), the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Tulsa Petroleum Club, OSU Posse - Booster Club, and Stillwater Rotary.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Truman, and Ruth Cunningham. He is survived by his wife, Sally Cunningham; sons, William (Bill) Cunningham and Michael Cunningham; daughters-in-law, Sharon and Julie; grandchildren Matt, Emily, Caleb and his wife Emily, Abby, and Wei Cunningham; sister, Mary Jackson; brother-in-law, Topper Jackson; 3 nephews.
