Robert graduated from Yale University and was a notorious Mid-Atlantic bounty singer who would join local church choirs on Sundays. A witness recalls, that when he was singing, Robert looked "like an Angel". He sang with the Charlotte Oratorio Singers, and served as President. Later, he would sing with the Baltimore Symphony Chorus, and he was a member of Trinity Cathedral Choir in Columbia, South Carolina. He was also a happy guest of Camden's Celebration Gospel Singers for their Christmas Gospel Sing. Music was sacred and central in his life.
Publicly, Robert belonged to the Camden Rotary Club and served as President of the Friends of the Kershaw County Library, and Treasurer of the Library Board. He also served on the Camden Historic Landmark Commission, and as Treasurer of Grace Episcopal Church. He was an active figure who served his community and participated in its leadership. He had a deep appreciation for the Arts Center in Camden, especially the string quartet.
He will be deeply missed, but recently reminded us that "Softly and tenderly, Jesus is calling".
All's well that ends well.
A service will be held at a later date. Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
