Karen Lipelt was born August 22, 1942 in Freeman, SD to William and Bertha (Edelman) Lipelt. She grew up in Freeman and graduated from Freeman High School. She married Donald Darby in Freeman, SD at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on December 27, 1961.
Karen worked for 20 years at Raven and another 20 years at Citibank where she made co-workers into friends. She was a lovely, kind-hearted and giving person, which made her easy to love. She enjoyed time with her family and loved following her son, Ken's band, even getting up and dancing when the mood struck her. Karen and Don enjoyed playing Sertoma Bingo. Karen loved making candies, pies and goodies and giving them to her family and friends; she especially enjoyed seeing how happy her treats made others.
Karen is survived by her loving husband, Don; her children, Kenneth Darby, Jackie (Tom McGovern) Blankenship and Nancy (Dan) Kock, all of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Jenna, Jade, Zakary (Maggie) and Tori; two great-grandchildren, Lillian and Javen; brother, Duane (Anneliese ) Lipelt, Omaha, NE and sister, Elaine Bishop, Indio, CA.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents, William and Bertha; and brother, Delmar.
