She then spent a year in Tulsa, OK before moving to Washington DC, working for the government. She married Garl Lacy Higgins around 1937. She and Garl are shown in the 1940 census living in Washington DC. She later had a son named Dennis Higgins. Records for Garl show he sometimes used his step-fathers last name of Cutlip. She and Garl separated. She married Elbert Jackson Swindell about 1967.
