Henry May, 95 years of age of Hurley, VA, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Phelps, KY. Born December 25, 1925 in Kelsa, VA, he was the son of the late Parris and Laura Estep May.

Henry was a retired coal miner and former owner/operator of Sow Branch Coal Company. He enjoyed coon hunting, was a member and deacon of Union Light Freewill Baptist church. A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ollie Cook May, daughter Lillie Mae Hurd, brothers Toby May, Troy May, Alfred May and Jimmy May, sisters Hazel Effler, Pearl Coleman and Edna Hurley.

Survivors include his sons Barry Stephen Estep and wife Lisa of Pikeville, KY, Ulvert Dotson of Rosedale, VA; sisters Ethel Hurley of Hurley, VA, Shirley Burridge of Grundy, VA; brothers Leroy May and wife Karen of Dugspur, VA, Harles May of Jacksonville, FL.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service for Henry May will be held at the Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Virginia, Sunday, September 5, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow.

Active pallbearers will be Christopher Childress, Barry Estep, Greg Estep, Paul Estep, Brian Hunt, Monroe Dotson, Gary Hurley and Bruce Dotson.

Honorary pallbearers will be the brothers of the Union Light Freewill Baptist Church and Gary Dotson.

The family will receive friends at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Grundy, VA, Sunday, September 5, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

In observance of COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing will be observed, and the wearing of masks is required for attendance.
