Melvin James Dickerson, 88, of Rexburg, Idaho, passed away, September 4, 2021.
Melvin was born June 21, 1933 in Ogden, Utah. He had nine brothers and sisters and loved his family dearly, especially his beloved mother.
He described his childhood chasing all over northern Utah as being better than Huck Finn's. He joined the Marine Corp at seventeen and served in the Korean War.
After an honorable discharge, he went looking for a wife. He found her in Couer'd Alene, Idaho. Mildred "Millie" Tyler met him at a youth activity and married him six weeks later in the Idaho Falls temple.
Their first two sons went to heaven far too early. They raised five more children to adulthood and adopted one already grown.
After earning a degree at Ricks College, he served as the Supervisor of Transportation for Madison School District, where most knew him as "Radar".
He loved the youth of the community. After retiring he sent another son to heaven and settled in to being a gentleman farmer in Hibbard.
With his beautiful wife, he served seven consecutive genealogical missions and eighteen years in both the Idaho Falls and Rexburg temples.
He leaves behind 5 children, 27 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren and the love his life, Millie, his wife of 66 years.
Funeral services will start at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 9, in the Hibbard Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, at Flamm Funeral Home and again from 10:00-10:45 a.m. in the Hibbard Chapel prior to the funeral service.
