Rodney "Rod" Brown, 64, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Rod was born May 27, 1957 in Mt. Vernon, the son of Loyd Brown and Alice (Gray) Brown. He married Kathy Campbell in 1990 and they later divorced.
Rod is survived by one son: Travis Brown and wife Kaylee of Bentonville, AR; two step-daughters: Treva Parker of Salina, OK, and Natasha Marquez of Bentonville, AR; three brothers: Ernie Brown and wife Pat of Mt. Vernon, Jerry Brown and wife Sharon of Mt. Vernon, and Jim Brown and wife Beverly of Rock Hall, MD; six grandchildren: Skye Brown and Travis Jet Brown of Bentonville, AR, Haylie Sigmon and husband Coy of Ft. Smith, AR, Madison Kelly of Fayetteville, AR, Abby Kelly of Ft. Smith, AR, and Emily Wilkinson and husband Elias of Bentonville, AR; one great grandson: Bryce; and several nieces and nephews.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents: Loyd and Alice Brown, two sisters: Alice Sue Mason and Anita June Brown; and one brother: Tommy Brown.
Rod was a life-long musician. He was the frontman of the L Street Band in Northwest Arkansas. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes with his son Travis and grandson Travis Jet. He avidly attended his grandchildren's sports activities and events. He was one of their biggest fans. Rod will be remembered for his dedication to his family.
Funeral Services for Rodney "Rod" Brown will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Old Union Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon with Rev. Jerry Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Old Union Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Old Union Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family and will be accepted by the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street in Centralia, Illinois 62801 (618) 532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Brown family.
