Joan grew up in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago and attended Resurrection Grade School and Siena High School. She met Thomas Bennett in Chicago and they were married on October 23, 1954. She raised four children in Wheaton where she was active in St. Michael Parish. Later, she worked for School District 200 in food service and administration. They moved to Glen Ellyn in 1991 and enjoyed being snowbirds in Green Valley, Arizona.
She enjoyed golfing, needlepoint, and playing bridge with friends. She was very social and enjoyed playing games, line dancing, senior fitness classes and being with family. She had a great zest for life and had a wonderful sense of humor.
She is survived by her children, Cathleen Bennett of Antioch, CA, Terrence Bennett of Downers Grove, Michael (Denise) Bennett of Prescott, AZ, and Susan (Robert) Pihera of Batavia, six grandchildren, Kimberly, Kevin, Nina, Britton, Michael and Maggie, two great-grandchildren, Caroline and Linnea.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Bennett in 2008, her siblings, Lois, Robert and Thomas and her parents.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 8, 2021, from 4:00p.m. - 8:00p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021, 9:15 a.m. from Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton to St. Michael Catholic Church for mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private.
