Esther Ruth Overman Jones

Esther Overman Jones, 85, went to be with the Lord, September 4, 2021 at Beacon Place. She was born November 1, 1935 in Liberty, NC to the late Jesse C. Overman and Kate Collins Overman.

Esther graduated from Liberty High School and earned her nursing degree from Highsmith Nursing School. She worked for 36 years at Moses Cone Hospital before retiring. She previously worked at Rex Hospital in Raleigh and Grace Hospital in Charlottesville, VA.

On August 25, 1957 she married Walter V. Jones Jr. and through the years they lived and raised their children in Raleigh, NC, Charlottesville, VA, Liberty, NC, Morganton, NC and Greensboro, NC. She was a member of Guilford College United Methodist Church and was previously a parish nurse for the church.

Esther is survived by her husband, Walter V. Jones Jr.; their children; Keith V. Jones and wife, Susan, of Greensboro, NC; Kevin Jones and wife, Judy, of Indianapolis, IN; Todd Jones of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren; Jason Coble and wife, Brittany, Justin Coble and wife, Peri; Madison Jones and fiancé, Joe Fischer; three great-grandsons; Jake Coble, Easton Coble and Bryson Coble; sister; Mary Lou Allred of Asheboro; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by eleven siblings. Esther adored her children, daughter-in-laws and grandchildren. Whenever she was asked to do anything for them, she was quick to say yes! Gift giving was her love language and her generosity knew no bounds. Most of all, she loved her husband of 64 years. They shared laughter, heartache and many adventures. She will be missed, but we all know we will see her again someday.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Kathy Forbes, a devoted family friend who took care of Esther and Walter.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Liberty, NC. Esther always said she wanted to have lots of flowers at her grave.
