Eddie Mae Smith was born to the proud parents of Eddie Lloyd and Nola Bell Clayton Lloyd of Lauderdale, MS June 5, 1930. She was the second oldest of six children. As a child, she attended Lauderdale Public School System. Eddie Mae later moved to Meridian, MS where she spent most of her teenage years. She was known to her family as "Honey." After reaching adulthood, Eddie Mae moved to Biloxi, MS where she met and married James M. Smith. James and Eddie Mae owned and operated Smith Service Station on the corner of Main and Division Streets for over forty years. She was known in the neighborhood as "Black Beauty." After the untimely death of her husband, Eddie Mae continued to call Biloxi her home. Because she loved Biloxi so much, when she got to where she could no longer take care of herself in her home, the family unanimously decided to honor her wishes and allow her to keep Biloxi as her home, until the good Lord calls her home. Eddie Mae Smith was peacefully called to an eternal resting place by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She quietly transitioned to her resting place on Friday, July 23, 2021, while residing in Biloxi, MS at the venerable age of 91.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, L.C. Billups, Henry Lloyd, George Billups, Albert Lloyd, and Everlena Griggs, her niece, Evelyn Joyce Griggs, who loved her dearly, and her nephew, Michael Griggs who would always make her laugh.

She leaves to cherish the precious life she lived plenty of nieces and nephews: Willie "Tic" Morris Griggs, James Griggs, Larry Griggs, Chystal Griggs, David Griggs, Andre Griggs, and Gladys Griggs, all of Meridian, MS and Charles Griggs of Los Angeles, CA.

Honey had a profound impact on the family because of her personality. All of her great-nieces and great-nephews will always remember her with love and laughter. cousins, and friends.
