Anna Mae Anderson was a wartime love child born on August 7, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York. Her mother, Eileen Hitchings, was about 21. Her father, Bernard Lee Anderson, was 20, and serving in the US Navy in Brooklyn during World War II. Bernard accepted paternity and Anna Mae was named for his sister. Sadly, baby Anna Mae died at just two months of age on October 8, 1944. Her body was brought by train from Brooklyn, New York to Galveston, Texas for burial in the Anderson plot in Lakeview Cemetery.
