Obituary

Charles Phillip "Phil" Richmond, 73, of Pampa, took his last breath Tuesday, September 4, 2021, with his loving family at his side. He was born on October 9, 1947, to George Frederick and Nina Richmond in Pampa, Texas.

Shortly after high school, Phil enlisted into the United States Army and served three years during the Vietnam War mainly stationed in Phu Loi, Vietnam. He, along with so many of his fellow servicemen, was extremely proud of his unselfish commitment to his country and fellow Americans. Following his tenure with the US Army and throughout many years, Phil was employed by Schlumberger, Chase Oilfield Services, Ft. Elliott School system, and he even started Basic Pest and Weed Control.

Not one to let the grass grow beneath his feet, he met Carol Dyer and three weeks later, they were married on August 24, 1977, and had recently celebrated their 44th anniversary together. He was an amazing storyteller; however, quite a handful at times, but his sense of humor kept things interesting, to say the least. For instance, his many "emergency fishing trips" that popped up, or perhaps the various little "gifts" he left for Carol in her purse to find on Sunday morning while at church (a cucumber, a beer tab and believe it or not-a can of sardines and a spoon in case she got hungry) just to mention a few of his escapades. Although he had an ornery streak, his generous heart knew no bounds.

Phil could be categorized as a gun enthusiast or even a gun collector, but he viewed them not only as a hobby, but as an investment and very strongly felt that every gun had a purpose! Always a very hard worker, he played equally as hard and found much of that enjoyment while spending time with his grandchildren and unbeknownst to them, teaching them to balance work and play as well.

Those who have passed away before him are his parents; sisters, June Johnson, Peggy Waldrop and a brother, George Richmond.

He leaves behind to cherish his shenanigans and memories his beloved wife, Carol Richmond; two daughters, Lana Joiner and husband Monty, Becky Richmond all of Pampa; two sisters, Alice Buske and husband Terry of San Antonio, TX, Paula Foelker and husband Jim of Chanute, KS; six grandchildren, K'Leigh Jo Broaddus, Isaac Joiner, Ethan Joiner all of Pampa, Halley Pate of Prosper, TX, Marley Pate and Kinsley Pate both of Pampa.

Should memorials in honor of Phil be a preference, the family suggests they be made to the VFW Pampa Post 1657, 105 S. Cuyler, Pampa, TX 79065 or Community Christian School, P.O. Box 51, Pampa, TX 79066.

In honoring Phil's wishes, there will not be a viewing or visitation; however, Celebration of Life Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Thursday, September 9, 2021, at White Deer Cemetery with Brother Jim Sinyard officiating. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home. Those honoring the family as pallbearers are Denver Dyer, Michael Dyer, Richard Dyer, Perry Dyer, Tarrell Dyer, and Terry Buske and as honorary pallbearers Bill Baldridge, Mike Wesbrooks, Larry Stroud, Monty Joiner, Jim Foelker, Vaughn Triplett and Vic Koontz.
