Charles C. Matthews, age 94 of 431 Neighbors Rd. Dunn died Wednesday Morning, September 1, 2021 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

Charles was born August 26, 1927 in Sampson County the son of the late William Marchie Matthews and Rossie Starling Matthews and is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Stewart Matthews. He also preceded in death by four sisters, three brothers and two great grandchildren, Christopher Ryals and Amelia Sealey.

Charles was raised in Sampson County in the Mingo Community, on a farm where he learned the value of working hard and he did just that during his lifetime. He and his wife, Marilyn and their children continued to farm even up to this day. He had a passion for farming, he never had any hobbies, so you could say Farming was his hobby as well as his way of life. He loved to work and that was all he ever knew and did that well up into his 80's. Anyone who knew Charles Matthews would tell you what a kind, good hearted and soft spoken man he was. He loved people and was the kind of neighbor that you could count on. He was a simple man and it did not take a lot to make him happy.

He graduated from Mingo High School and attended Leslie Methodist Church. He was also a Charter member of the Mary Stewart Lions Club. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 6, 2021 at 3:00 pm at his home located at 431 Neighbors Rd., Dunn with Rev. Wanda Berrier officiating. There will be a private burial on Tuesday at Devotional Gardens Cemetery.

He is survived by: His Sons: Mike Matthews & (wife) Carolyn of Dunn, NC and Marchie Ken Matthews and (wife) Stephanie of Dunn, NC. Daughters: Deborah Beasley & (husband) Bobby of Dunn, NC; Charlette Jones & (husband) Ernie of Dunn, NC and Kim Dunn & (husband) Scott of Benson, NC.

Grandchildren: Michael Matthews (Sherry) of Benson; Shannon Massengill (Brent) of Benson; Russell Matthews of Dunn; Charlene Tart (Ray) of Benson; Irene Stewart (Jamie) of Benson; Bobby Beasley, Jr. (Kristie) of Dunn: Ernie Jones, III of Dunn; Lywisa Gainey (Josh) of Dunn; Ashley Sealey (Eric) of Dunn; Marchie Austin Matthews of Dunn; Savanna Matthews of Dunn; Hanna Williams (Brandon) of Benson and Sidney Warwick (Aaron) of Newton Grove.

Great Grandchildren: Lee Anna, Chloe, Calli Jon, Claire ,Baleigh, Chase, Abby, Matthew, Anthony, Jeremy, Casey, Steven, Jaelyn, Greyden, Hannah, Levi, Madison, Luke, Delaney, Everley, Lofton, Caine, AnaGray, Kinlee and Walker. 6 Great Great Grandchildren. A Sister: Bernice Naylor of Salemburg, NC. There will be a Visitation Sunday, September 5, 2021 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Cromartie Miller Funeral Home in Dunn. The Family will not be present.
