James F. Hardy, Sr. (Jim) passed away peacefully and went to meet his heavenly Father on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at his home. He was born in Miami, Florida on August 13, 1935, to Wilbert P. and Mattie Lee (Townsend) Hardy.

He attended Miami Senior High School. After high school Jim served our country in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge he returned home and went to work for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years. He retired as Manager of Customer Services. He was a lifetime member of the B.P.O.E Gainesville Elks Lodge #990. He was a former member of the Rotary Club.

Jim enjoyed the outdoors immensely and was an avid hunter and fisherman spending many hours on the water and in the woods with his family and friends. He was a member of McIntire and Levyville Hunting Clubs. He was formerly a member of the Lake Forest Baptist Church and currently attended Westside Baptist Church.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and wife Barbara (Jones) Hardy and his life will forever be cherished by his surviving family, his wife Tonya (Rone) Hardy and three children James F. (Freddy) Hardy, Jr., Cindy H. Hardee (Will) and Suzanne H. Savage; and grandchildren, Tyler Hardy (Amanda), Olivia Hardy, Kyle Savage, Mary-Margaret Hardee, Madisen S. Dotson (Colton). He was also the proud great pepaw of two great grandchildren Preston and River. Through his marriage to Tonya he gained stepchildren Hank Rone (Gina), Richard Rone (Tasha), grandchildren Ashley Macholeth (Kurt) and Julie Rone (Kaitlin), Hayley, Hannah, Garrison, great grandchildren Arianna, Lyra, Vithia. He was also survived by his siblings, Paul Hardy, Sr. (Beverly), Marian Arden (John) and Richard Hardy (Evelyn).

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 2, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Westside Baptist Church, 10,000 West Newberry Rd. Gainesville with Dr. David Chauncey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Townsend Cemetery in Hawthorne with military honors.
