Mr. John "Johnny" Larry Maxwell

Johnny Maxwell's love for life didn't come to an end with his death. Johnny passed away after a courageous battle of cancer on September 2, 2021, at the age of 67, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest just like he always did.

Services will be officiated by Rev. Daniel Baker, Rev. Blair Self and Rev. David Smith.

Johnny retired from Greater Gadsden Housing Authority in 2018, after 45 years of service. Johnny was passionate about preaching the gospel and loving his family and friends. He lit up every room he walked in, radiating love and kindness to all he came in contact with. Johnny was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

Johnny was welcomed to Heaven with open arms by his father, Larry Maxwell; his mother, Sarah M. Maxwell; his brothers, Barry and Jerry Maxwell; and his mother-in-law, Betty R. Burnett.

Johnny is survived by his wife Kathy R. Maxwell; his daughter, Amy M. Baker (Daniel Baker); his son, Jason Maxwell (Heather L. Maxwell); his grandchildren, Kaitlyn B. Wilcox (John Wilcox), Brittany Baker, Sarah Maxwell, Natalie Maxwell, Justin Maxwell; and his great grandson, John-Luke Wilcox.

Pallbearers include Bucky Cole, Glenn Ellis, Jerry Wayne Griffith, Mike Hathcock, Tony Hathcock, Chris Maxwell, Shane Maxwell, and Matt Stokes.

Honorary Pallbearers include Jackie Grochola, Chosen Son-Al Kimball, Virgil Smith, Ronald Walker, and Greater Gadsden Housing Authority Employees.

Visitation will be held at Village Chapel on Sunday, September 5th, 2021 from 1-3 PM, with the funeral service starting at 3 PM. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until the time of service Sunday. He will be laid to rest at his home church, Carnes Chapel FCM, following the funeral service.

The family has requested that everyone who plans to attend to please wear a mask.
