Salle Mae Washington Green departed this earthly life on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, surrounded by her loving husband and children. Born on Oct. 15, 1943, in Sumter County, she was the 10th of 12 children born to Hopkin Washington Jr. and Sallie Ann Thomas Washington.
She was educated in the Sumter County school system and worked as a domestic worker for many years. As an exceptional cook, she prepared many delicious meals and fed numerous pastors, families and friends. She was a lifelong member of Bethel AME Church, Wedgefield, where she served on the Janie Williams Missionary Society and the stewardess board.
Loving memories will be cherished by her devoted husband of 57 years, Marion Green Jr. of Wedgefield; two loving children, Deacon Earl (Lucille) Green of Sumter and Margaret Joyner of the home; two grandchildren, Quina Joyner and LaTonya Canty; two loved as sons, the Rev. John (Estella) Cunningham and Stafford Law; three sisters, Rovenia Harris, Naomi Polk and Susan Sims, all of Pinewood; six sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; special caretaker, Termines Portee; and a host of other relatives and friends who are deeply saddened by her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Hattie Duncan, Dorothy Taylor and Lillian Wright; and five brothers, James Washington Sr., Harry Lee Washington, Frank Washington, Hopkin Washington lll and Leroy Washington.
Graveside services: Bethel AME Church, Wedgefield, with Pastor Larry D. Clark Sr. officiating.
