Ruby was born to Robert Houston and Wilda Ellen Goodin Canada. She married William Fairis on February 7, 1938 in Iowa, and he died December 20, 1989.

Surviving are one son, John (Judith) Fairis; three daughters, Mary Lou Hoeft, Katherine Baugher and Karen (Claude) Crawshay; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Ruby and her husband farmed in the San Jose area for many years.
