Dianna Fern Schmidt was born to Vernon and Sophie Nightingale on July 28, 1956 in O'Keene, Oklahoma. She went to be with Jesus on September 1, 2021. She had just celebrated her 65th birthday with her family at one of her favorite restaurants.

Mom spent her childhood and youth growing up on the family dairy farm in Fairview, OK. where she was her dad's little milk maid and farm hand. She attended the local public school for twelve years. On March 10, 1968 she was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite by Minister Carl Nightingale.

On one of Dad's ventures to Mexico with three other young men he stopped in at Fairview. They met with the youth and sitting on a kitchen barstool was a cute dark haired, dark eyed girl. Dad was smitten at first sight. They married on July, 4 1976 and experienced the joys and sorrows of life for 45 years together. To this union was born 4 sons and 1 daughter: Darren, Phil, Matt, Kristy, and Andy. Mom and Dad greatly enjoyed their travels to many destinations from the Grand Canyon to Montreal, Quebec to Rockport, Maine to name just a few.

Mom was a brilliant lady who had an outstanding memory. She was the cornerstone of our family. Due to her uncanny skill at finding bargains her children and grandchildren always knew they could count on Mom having plenty of what they wanted. Mom enjoyed spending time helping her husband and sons with the family business, moving equipment, disking, and feeding fish.

Left behind in heartache and tears are her loving husband, David; four sons: Darren and Robyn, and Phil and Teresa of El Campo, Texas; Matt and Carrie of Houston, Texas; Andy and Carla of El Campo, Texas; three precious grandchildren: Benjamin, Bridgette, and Miles; her father: Vernon Nightingale of Fairview, OK; her mother-in-law Isabel Schmidt of Rich Hill, Mo.; three sisters: Arletta Nightingale of Moundridge, KS.; Florine and Norman Penner of Wingo, KY.; and Twila and Lester Penner of Ste. Anne, MB.; one brother: Delbert and Irene of Fairview, OK.; one brother-in-law: Rick Groene of Fairview, OK.; one sister-in-law: Greta and Rodney Unruh of Peoria, AZ.; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Kristy Michelle. Her mother Sophie, one sister Phyllis, and her parents-in-law Allen and Margaret.

Visitation will be 2 - 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 at Wheeler Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 6 p.m. until 8:30 pm at El Campo Mennonite Church. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept.5 at El Campo Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories.
