Jacob Clinton, who served the Manilla community for nearly 50 years while operating a business here, died Friday September 12, 1952 after a lingering illness. "Clint" as he was known had retired from business in 1948, selling his merchandise to Alfred Paulsen.
J.C. son of Hezekiah and Rachel Dyson, was born at Fulton, Illinois on February 6, 1876 and died at his home in Manilla, September 12, at the age of 76 years, seven months and six days.
When he was seven, his parents moved to a farm five miles south of Manilla where they lived for five years. At that time, they moved to town and operated a hotel. Soon after their marriage the Dysons moved to Coon Rapids where he was in charge of Mr Spiker's store. A year and a half later they moved back to Manilla, and became a partner in the Dyson and Calvin general store. In 1910 he went into business for himself and the establishment was known as "Clint's New Store."
In 1915 he built what is now the Benton Implement place of business and operated a department store in this building until 1930 when he sold out. The following year he again started a business and in later years moved his store to the Jensen building. Here he continued in business until his health failed in 1948.
