Robert J. Brock, 74, of Elk Point, South Dakota passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at MercyOne in Sioux City, Iowa. A Celebration of Life service took place on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point, South Dakota. Pastor Erik Olson officiated. Burial was Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the Harrison Township Cemetery, rural Swea City, Iowa.
Robert James Brock Jr. was born on May 3, 1947, at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa to Robert James and Mary Elaine (Brandt) Brock. He graduated from high school in Ringsted, Iowa. Bob served in the Iowa National Guard from September 23, 1967, to September 22, 1973. After High School, he began working with his father in Ringsted at his DX service station. Bob would later purchase the business from his father. He expanded the business by opening DX and Champlin service stations in Bode and Livermore, Iowa.
After retiring from the service stations, Bob worked for Rohlin Construction in Estherville, Iowa. Bob met and married Karen Kay Friedrich on February 13, 1999, in Roseau, Minnesota. Between them they had six children. The couple moved to Elk Point, South Dakota in 2004 where Bob took a position with Load King Trailers where he was currently employed.
His spare-time was spent with their children and grandchildren. Bob's hobbies included collecting hats and toy trucks along with watching Nebraska football. He and Karen also enjoyed trips to Canada to visit friends.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Brock of Elk Point, SD; a daughter, Lori Herzog of Forest Lake, MN and her children, Brendon, Kyle and Hailey; a daughter and her husband, Kim and Charles Thompson of Bristow, VA and their children, Hannah and Parker; a daughter Deborah Guerdett and her special friend, Ken Witham of Bancroft, IA and their children, Dalton, Marissa and Olivia; a son, Kelly Brock and his special friend, Tina Brand of Pepin, WI and their children Jordan, Austin and Lola; a daughter and her husband, Kathy and Vince Dohmen of Pierce, NE and her children, Leslie, Haley and Ethan; a son and his wife, Tim and Jody Klein of Elk Point, SD and their children, Jake and Blake; a brother, Tom Brock and his special friend, Adriana of Houston, TX and their son, Adam.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
