ELGIN – A private graveside service for Wilford E. "W.E". – "AL" Alderman, 92, will be held in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harvest Hope of Columbia, 2220 Shop Road, Columbia, S.C. 29202.

Mr. Alderman, husband of the late Betty S. Alderman, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. Born in Eden, N.C., he was the son of the late Charles A. "Charlie" and Myrtle Burroughs Alderman.

He was a former member of Spears Creek Baptist Church and attended Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church. He retired from the United States Army, where he received many awards; to include the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Two Commendation Awards and other service awards. Al was a distinguished graduate of Drill Sargent School in 1966 and was awarded the Commandants Trophy. Al retired from Rockwell International as Quality Assurance Foreman and also worked in various security positions and past notary for the State of South Carolina. He was a member of AARP, The American Legion Post 17 and the American Military Society and enjoyed different types of craft, especially patriotic, to bring more attention to the military, their families and service to our country.

Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael E. and Dana Alderman and Timothy D. "Tim" and Pamela A. "Pam" Alderman; and grandchildren, Troy L. Coker, Alexandra D. "Lexie" Forrest (Andrew Forrest), and Wil M. Alderman; and great-grandchild, Bilsey M. Forrest. He was predeceased by a daughter, Darlene E. Alderman; granddaughter, Michelle D. Alderman.
