A graveside service for Beverly will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Pelham, Alabama.Beverly Kathryn Coats was the daugher of Marjoire Carroll and Lewis Leavel Coats Sr. Her siblings were Barbara Coats Arnberg and John Bussey Coats. Beverly's older brothers were Lewis Leavell Coats Jr and Thomas Spearman Coats, born of their father's first wife, Clyde Jones Spearman.

Beverly Kathryn Coats Patterson, a longtime resident of Vestavia Hills/ Homewood, passed away September 1,2021. Beverly was born on June 13, 1923 to the union of Lewis L. Coats and Marjorie C. Carroll Coats Parker in New Orleans, Louisiana. She received her formal education at Slidell High School and furthered her education at the Louisiana Business School in Shreveport, Louisiana. Beverly met her future husband, Ted E. Patterson , in New Orleans while he was serving in the Coast Guard during World War II. Beverly and Ted were married on July 31,1943 in New Orleans. Ted and Beverly were married for 55 years. Beverly and Ted moved to Birmingham in 1964. They joined Trinity United Methodist Church where Beverly was a member of The Friendship Class for 57 years, She was also a member of Daughters of American Revolution. After her children were grown, Beverly went to work for Alabama Pension and Security. She had many friends and in her leisure time loved to play Bridge and other games. Traveling was an activity that Beverly enjoyed with her husband, Ted. They were able to travel all over the Continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, China, Japan and multiple trips to Europe. She was a warm and loving person that never met a stranger and turned everyone she met into family. She was definitely a bright light to all who knew her. Although her bright light has dimmed; we rejoice in the comforts that a star shines bright in Heaven. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; Lewis L. Coats and Marjorie C. Carroll Coats Parker; husband, Ted E. Patterson; brothers, Lewis L. Coats, Sr.,Shreveport; Tommy S. Coats , Arlington, Virginia; John B. Coats, Slidell and sister, Barbara C. Arnburg, Montgomery. She leaves to cherish her memory; son, Gary D. (Marilyn) Patterson, Birmingham; daughter, Trisha Patterson Tillman, Kennesaw, GA.;grandchildren, Anna (Brooks) Harris, Birmingham; Graham (Beth) Patterson, Birmingham; Brandon (Ashleigh Rider)Tillman, Kennesaw, GA.;Katie (Seth) Edgar, Marietta, GA.and 3 great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
