Richard P. Ward of Vernon, beloved husband of 49 years to Patricia (Swain) Ward, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. Rick was born on September 26, 1946 in Bellows Falls, Vermont one of three children of the late Kenneth and Jean Anne (Spicer) Ward. He was raised in Vernon, attended local schools and was a graduate of Rockville High School. In his early years, Rick was employed with Windsor Manufacturing as an operations manager and more recently was a mail carrier in Vernon for over 15 years until his retirement in 2009. He enjoyed freshwater fishing, going to the casino and was an avid and gifted Set-Back and Cribbage player.
In addition to his wife Pat, he is survived by his four children Kimberly Ward of Brattleboro, VT. and her son Jack, Todd Ward of Bellows Falls, VT. and his daughter Cassandra and her son Owen, Brian Swain of Vernon and Paul Ward and his wife Susan of Vernon and their children Jacob, Benjamin and Emily. His sister Sharon Cote of Bellows Falls, VT., and several nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to his parents Rick was predeceased by his brother Gary Ward.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a time of visitation at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road in Vernon on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 pm in Grove Hill Cemetery, 22 Cemetery Ave. in Vernon. Masks will be required to attend the visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
