Etta J. Agena was born in Germany November 22, 1851 . She was the daughter of Jan Gehden and Almt Habben (Duis) Agena. She married Dietrich Agena on March 29, 1876. He was the son of Harm Gehden and Charlotte (Alting) Agena. They had one son, Harm Dietrich. Dietrich passed away April 11, 1878. She married William Johnson (Fockenga) on October 12, 1878. Etta and William Johnson had seven children; Almt, Onnie, John, Fred, William, Peter, and Anna. Etta died Jan 26, 1936.

Harm Dietrich Agena married Margaretha Wohlers and Almt Johnson married John W. Johnson. The other Johnson children never married.
